Frequently Asked Questions (work in progress)

Please reach me by text message at 951-834-6398 or by email at notarycoral@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

A notary public is a public official appointed by the state government to witness and certify the signing of legal documents. Notaries can only notarize SIGNATURES, not documents.

Simply put, I verify ID, and make sure that the signer is coherent and willingly signing the document (not being forced to sign). This prevents fraud.

In order for me to notarize your signature, I need several things.

1.) I need to verify your identity. Acceptable forms of identification typically include a state-issued driver’s license, passport, or other government-issued ID with a photograph.

*In California, you can still get a document notarized even if you don't have a valid ID, but you'll need to utilize two credible witnesses. Specifically, you need two individuals who can personally vouch for your identity and who are willing to swear to your identity under oath.

The credible witnesses themselves must have valid, government-issued photo IDs that are acceptable. I will verify the witnesses' IDs and record their information, as well as your affirmation, in my journal.

2.) Sign the document in my presence.

3.) I complete the notarization.

4.) You pay the Fee

I accept the following forms of payment:

Cash

No, California notaries cannot perform remote online notarizations (RON) at this time.

A new California law was passed and will eventually authorize CA notaries to perform remote notarizations — but it may not take effect for several years. (ETA is 2030)
